I. About Me
Hey there! I'm Yuyang (or Cici, or Zizi, or whatever sticks), a film director and production designer based in New York City. I graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A. in Film & Television and a second major in German Literature & Culture.
At heart, I see myself as a storytelling artist. Film is my primary language, but not my only one. I also write, experiment with sound, and explore other forms of narrative. For me, storytelling begins with paying attention: to people, to places, and to the silence that screams.
II. Filmmaking
I want my films to be listeners.
I believe in cinema’s power to make people feel seen and heard. My work centers on ordinary people and the quiet, universal emotions of being alive: belonging, loneliness, or love and fear and everything in between.
Rather than offering answers, I hope my films can hold space for what audiences already feel and remind gently, that it is okay to feel, and it is brave to feel.
III. Production Design
Spaces are characters. If we listen closely, they speak. They have their own wants and needs, shaping a protagonist’s journey as any other character would.
For me, production design is never about design alone. It begins with inhabiting a character’s world, understanding the emotional weight a space carries, and translating that feeling into something tangible. Like storytelling, it is ultimately an act of listening and embracing other human beings.
Every project begins with listening. My approach is tailored to each story, from early concept development and visualization through sourcing, fabrication, and on-set execution.
IV. Collaboration
I’m currently available for selected production design, art department, and producing projects for films, commercials, music videos, and photoshoot.
